July 7th Celtic Crossing Session (Memphis, TN)

The first, of what I hope to be many podcasts from sessions, recorded LIVE at Celtic Crossing in the Cooper / Young area of Memphis.

Yes that's right.. There's more than blues, rap and Elvis in Memphis! And some of the Craic.. is good for you.

So without further delay, here's a 13min sampling of the session. We're there every other tuesday, and if you want more, drop by between 7pm and 10pm, have a seat, order a pint (or my fav. the Corned Beef sandwich). Yes.. they have Guiness on tap!

Just recieved a shipment of Clanrye Reeds in.

In a conversation with the manuf, I asked what chanters they have had success with, when matched with these reeds, and which are not a good match. They indicated they should work well in most modern poly type chanters. ie: the newer higher pitched ones, and do not seem to work as well, in the older, lower pitched wooden chanters, though, as always, your results may vary.

One interesting point however, they are able to make reeds that do work for the B-flat (440) chanters on request. Just something to think about.

I've also recieved a selection of Korg tuners & metronomes, hemp seal, airtight seasoning.. all sitting on a shelf, looking for a good home.

And lastly, don't forget I can get percussion supplies, drums, highland apparel and more! Just ask.

Not sure if anyone has noticed.. but.. I charge NO SHIPPING.

Why? easy.. lazyness.

It's such a pain when putting items in the online shopping card, to measure and weigh every single item, not to mention for you, the customer.. you budget $40 for item A, and it ends up being $45.73 when all is said and done.

Red River Pipes and Drums Workshop

I'll be attending the annual Red River Pipes and Drums workshop in Shreveport, LA this weekend (Thurs - Sunday). Will be checking email and filling those orders that can be drop shipped from suppliers. Other orders will be shipped on Monday when I return home.

It is with sadness that we find out that Jackson, TN and the area has lost another small business. The Celtic Moor, at this time, has closed it's doors. A great shop, great people and big supporters of Celtic heritage in the area. The shop will be missed and we look forward to the day, when that name may return.

Good Luck Gary & Linda in whatever endeavour is next for the two of you.

Consignments?

Would anyone be interested in a Consignment area of the store?

The advantage to the seller, I handle inquiries and am able to offer more ways for the customer to pay. Also the pipes are advertised, with pictures on a known vendor's website.

The advantage to the buyer, more ways to pay, or if the pipes don't have the reeds / bag you wish, they can be included in one sale. Plus.. you have a known dealer backing up the claims made about the pipes, at least inasmuch as can be determined from physical inspection.

Well, some may have noticed over the last week or so, the site has been down a bunch. or if it wasn't down, it was painfully slow. The cause.. well, the cause is irrelevent. But to fix the situation, I've moved this site up to a dedicated hosting service at GoDaddy.com.

With that, had to redo some things on the site (ongoing) and start a whole new blog, as well as hosted email system. So.. Here it is.

If anyone attempted to send an email and got it bounced back. that should no longer happen.
